Efrain Gomez Jr. grew up in Donna and went through Donna schools. He is a husband, a father, a business owner, and a community advocate. Working alongside educators and employers is what led him to run, because he believes students should graduate with a real direction, not just a diploma.

I grew up in a small, tight knit Donna neighborhood. My dad worked away from home to provide for us, and my mom held everything together. I learned early what responsibility looks like.
Years later, when I had kids of my own, I made career choices because I wanted to be there for them. That is the same reason I care so much about what happens after graduation here.
I want more of our young people to build a good life without feeling like they have to leave the Valley to do it.
“It's not enough just to say they graduated high school. I want them to have a real choice once they graduate.”
Leadership Approach
I listen first, then I take responsibility
I do not claim to have every answer. What I bring is a willingness to ask questions, find the right expertise, and own the result.
- Ask before deciding
- I listen to the people closest to the work, ask questions, and learn what I do not know before I vote on it.
- Bring in expertise
- Good decisions come from the right people at the table. I have spent my career finding those people and listening to them.
- Take responsibility
- When something does not work, I own it, fix it, and carry the lesson forward instead of passing the blame.
- Measure the results
- Action should produce something you can point to. If we cannot measure it, we cannot honestly say it worked.

Three things I am running on
Every student should leave Donna ISD with a real direction. These are the three commitments I would bring to Place 7.
Real Career Pathways
A diploma should come with a direction. That means connecting our students to colleges, universities, employers, and industry professionals while they are still in school, so they graduate with a real choice in front of them.
Financial Responsibility and Transparency
Taxpayers deserve to understand where their money goes. I want spending tied to measurable goals and student outcomes, and I want it explained honestly, in plain language, to the people paying for it.
Listen to Teachers and Parents
Teachers are the ones doing the work with our students every day, and they need the tools and support to do it. Parents need to be able to ask questions and get real answers. A board should be accessible to both.
